Why visit Podhájska and surroundings

Podhájska is not just a place for relaxation at the thermal spa. The whole region offers rich opportunities for active recreation, learning about the history and culture of southern Slovakia. Whether you are lovers of cycling, hiking, cultural monuments or gastronomic experiences, you will definitely enjoy the area around Podhájska.

Cycling in Podunajsko

The Podunajsko region is ideal for cycling. Flat to slightly undulating terrain allows pleasant cycling for all age groups. Cycling routes lead through picturesque wine villages, field roads with views of the Danube Lowland and forests full of birdsong. For beginners and families with children, shorter circular routes are ideal, experienced cyclists can do longer trips to more distant locations.

Historical monuments and culture

The area around Podhájska is rich in historical monuments. Nearby Nové Zámky offers a tour of the mighty fortress from the 16th century, which once defended the borders of Hungary. Komárno attracts visitors with the largest fortress in Central Europe and lively atmosphere on the Danube. In Nitra, Slovakia's oldest city, you can visit Nitra Castle with rich history dating back to the 9th century.

For nature lovers, nearby is Arboretum Mlyňany, one of Europe's oldest arboretums with unique collection of trees from around the world. Ideal place for family trip with picnic and relaxation in nature.

Gastronomy and local specialties

Southern Slovakia is known for its rich gastronomy influenced by both Slovak and Hungarian cuisine. Bryndzové halušky, goulash, lángos and local wines from Podunajsko should definitely not be missed. In summer months, wine harvests and tastings of local wines take place, where you can learn about the wine-making tradition of the region and meet local winemakers. Don't forget to taste traditional pastries like trdelník or poppy seed cake.

In addition to the thermal spa, you will find playgrounds, mini open-air museum with wooden village, walking opportunities to ponds and in summer months also summer cinema under the open sky. In winter months you will enjoy a unique experience - bathing in heated outdoor pools during snowfall.

For children, visits to thermal springs are also interesting, where they can see where the warm water in the pools comes from. Educational trails in the area offer opportunities to learn about local fauna and flora.
